MSEC (Microsoft Educator Community) Campaign is an activity program that focuses on improving teachers' competencies through integrated training. Leveraging the resources and the materials that are contained on the portal MSEC (education.microsoft.com), this workshop has the objective to maximize the usefulness of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in teaching and learning. Carrying the concept of training-to-trainer, it is expected brought impact continuous. The teachers who enrolled into this activity hopefully can be influencers that are able to provide examples and understanding for other teachers, either in the school or in the community.


MSEC second quarter brought the big theme "Prepare to Teach Creative Coding through Games and Apps". This workshop provided material on how to enhance programming skills (or commonly referred to as coding) to students in the learning process. Using modern and visual programming platform, the trainer gave understanding about programming that delivered in a light without leaving the essence associated with basic concepts in the development of applications and digital games with the use of TouchDevelop. From this creative sessions, it is hoped that students are able to enhance their creativity and innovative ideas pour owned as a result of instruction in the form of digital works. This workshop was held at Direktorat Sistem dan Sumber Daya Informasi (DSSDI), Universitas Gadjah Mada on November 17, 2016. This was attended by 20 teachers coming from across Yogyakarta.


This workshop was divided into two session: presentation and hands-on lab. At the beginning of the workshop, the trainer explained about tips and tricks in delivering content power point. After getting a basic understanding on how to make a power point. Afterward, it was followed by a presentation on the concept of "Creative Coding through Games and Apps". In this session, it was conveyed the concept of learning through creative programming concept that is implemented into applications and digital games. After finishing the presentation, the trainer continued with hands on lab where the participants finished some quizzes on Coding Academy in education.microsoft.com.


The next workshop agenda was followed by a presentation of TouchDevelop where participants were invited to recognize Template Game (Pong) and Application (Pages). At the next session namely Idea Generation, the participants were divided into several groups that consisted of 3-4 people to discuss the issues in Yogyakarta relating to education, culture, tourism, bureaucracy, and smart city. After finding the idea, the participants were taught to develop applications and games using TouchDevelop. At the end of the session, the participants who had completed the manufacture of the background picture of the problem and solution applications / games, then they should added it into Office Mix.


After participate to this workshop, the participants should be able to gain deeper understanding about the creative concept in learning that is packaged in a creative session programming. In addition, the teachers can understand the pedagogical tips to include students in a collaborative environment in the classroom in a defined problem solving. Lastly, the teachers are able to understand how to utilize the concept of Creative Coding through Games and Apps for planning teaching in the classroom.
