Hour of Code is a global initiative that invites citizens to learn computer programing. Collaborating with YCAB Foundation (Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa), Microsoft Innovation Center Yogyakarta on November 11, 2015 at Direktorat Sistem dan Sumber Daya Informasi (DSSDI) UGM held a workshop about introduction of programming to teachers from Yogyakarta.
The workshop was done in two session. Morning session was at 9 – 12 followed by 40 teachers, afternoon session was at 1 – 4 followed by 40 teachers. There were three subject materials that were delivered in this workshop. The first was led by Research and Education Advisor MIC Yogyakarta Dr. Ridi Ferdiana. In his presentation, he explored various advantages that can be obtained by students and teachers if studying the learning concept which is about forming creative and critical thoughts.
The second subject material was delivered by Arya Adhitya Nugraha as a Trainer Specialist MIC Yogyakarta. This second material invited participants to learn basic programming from the content in Code.org. Afterward, the third material subject was about developing digital game with Kodu Game Labs which was delivered by IT and Education Specialist MIC Yogyakarta Randi Eka Yonida.
This workshop was a part of EduApps Hackathon event ((http://appsanakjogja.org) which was the initiative from Microsoft YouthSpark supported by YCAB Foundation dan MIC Yogyakarta. By enlightening the programming to teachers, it is expected that they can show their students at school that creating a digital content is not difficult because there are various tools that can ease them.
