Introducing Hours of Code and Training Kodu Game Labs

Hours of Code (HoC) is a global initiative which aims to introduce computer science in a fun way and in a short time. This initiative get many supports from many parts including Microsoft and also its Founder: Bill Gates. In order to get success the, MIC Yogyakarta cooperated with teacher community in Yogyakarta by holding a one day workshop understanding the program HoC.

Workshop on December 17, 2015 at DSSDI UGM was followed by more than 60 teachers from different background of education in Yogyakarta. Every teacher tried some games of HOC. One which is the most popular is Minecraft. The teachers were so interested to introduce the program in the school because it is easy to understand, and it is good to strengthen the ability of programming logic.

Besides introducing the HOC program, the workshop also introduced and demonstrated application of Kodu Game Labs which is a game maker application with interactive design and visual programming language which can be easily understood. It is hoped that teachers are able to create a learning content by putting digital game concept which is liked by most of students.

Many teachers succeeded creating some learning simulation with Kodu. Some made it for Math science in the form of multiplication game, and some others created a simple adventure game for History subject. It is hoped that in the future teachers can be pioneer of wide insight and diverse ideas to create learning content in the class.
