After passing a series of events of Microsoft Youthspark, Participants who have passed the selection are asked to participate in Hackhaton. Microsoft Youthspark is a collaboration partnership among Microsoft, Microsoft Innovation Center, and Yayasan Cinta Bangsa (Ycab) to organize a competition for underprevillaged students across Yogyakarta. The series events of Microsoft Youthspark are started from submission ideas, idea selection, as well as idea generation, and continued with Hackhaton. Hackhaton  aims to select the best game creation from each group of students heading into the final round.

Hackhaton is divided into four sessions: opening, game showcase, game clinic I and clinic games II. In this event, it was attended by 250 students who had passed the selection of ideas and had participated in idea generation workshop that had been held previously. Hackhaton lasted for five days started from 21- 25 June, 2016. Participants were divided into 50 members per day and it was held at the Computer Lab DSSDI, Universitas Gajah Mada.

At the beginning of this event, it was opened by a keynote speech from Microsoft Innovation Center team that described about How Gaming Industry Can Change through Innovation. It is intended to evoke the spirit of the students to participate in Imagine Cup with Kodu. This event was continued with Game Showcase in order to display a decent game with the theme hackhaton. Game Showcase aims to encourage the participants to gain inspiration to make improvements, innovation, and further development for their game creation with Kodu.

This event then was continued with Game Clinic session I. At this stage, the participants began creating games and GameDev team opened discussion session with the participants who have difficulties or obstacles during their work. In addition, the GameDev team also approached to each team related to the technical development and provided feedback or technical solutions. After lunch and coffee break, this event was continued with Game Clinic Session II where participants began to test their game and GameDev team tried to play test in each group. After all the team completed their work, the next step was Game Evaluation. At this stage, the  judges made an assessment using the rubric predetermined. The judges walked around from one team to the other and also did a play test before the assesment.

After finishing the assessment, this event was closed by explaining the details of the exhibition which would be held on 14-15 June, 2016. At the Exhibition of Microsoft Youthspark, the participants who qualify for the final round will feature their game and present it in front of audiences.
